SUMMER STAFF, Walkaway Springs Christian Retreat Center
Come be a part of a dynamic, young, fun, energetic Christian family. Grow as a leader and agent of spiritual transformation. Deliver life-changing memories to guests of all ages and backgrounds while empowering each other to become leaders in their communities. It has been our experience that God brings staff members with different talents and abilities to Waukaway each summer to do the work that He has planned. We want this to be a time of spiritual growth for each staff member and hope to create an atmosphere of family and camaraderie between staff. As a part of our camp life, we will have daily devotionals and a staff Bible study of some sort. Each group that we host has different needs that we meet using our various talents. Every staff member is not expected to excel in every area of ministry, but is expected to participate to the best of their God given ability. Many times staff members are surprised to find that they have talents that have not yet been discovered. There might be times that you are asked to participate in activities that might make you feel uncomfortable, or even foolish in the beginning, but later become fun. Some days we put in long hours working from early in the morning to late at night. This ministry can be physically and mentally demanding but the joy of seeing one of our campers gain eternal life can’t be matched! Some of the responsibilities you might be given include the following: Lifeguarding: During Staff Training, all staff members who can swim take the Red Cross Lifeguard Course. Staff members serve as Lifeguards at the waterfront to ensure a safe swimming environment for our guests. You will receive the Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and be placed in rotation as lifeguards as scheduled by the Waterfront Director. Food Service: All staff members help in the kitchen and dining hall areas during meals. All staff members assist in preparing the dining hall for the meal, serving guests during the meal, and cleaning up the dining hall and kitchen after the meal. Staff members usually prepare breakfast and sometimes help the cooks with other meals as needed. Programming: All staff members share the responsibility of participating in provision of programming for our guests. Staff members will rotate leading the various activities that are scheduled by the groups. These include Target Sports, Challenge Trails, Gym set up, Campfire prep, and more. These leadership opportunities will be assigned by the Camp Manager. All staff members are needed and expected to work in their assigned area at the specified time, whether they be leading or assisting in the event. Staff members will also be assigned to work in the Camp Store at the discretion of the Camp Director. Worship/Teaching: Staff members will be needed to lead Praise and Worship and/or teaching from time to time. The worship/teaching leaders will be assigned by the Camp Manager. Staff will be given ample time to prepare a Bible study/lesson for groups when needed. Clean-up and Maintenance: All staff member are required to help clean the camp after a group leaves the grounds. All used areas will have to be cleaned and readied for the next group. Staff will receive one 24 hour block of off time per week. These off times will be rotated and assigned by the Camp Manager. This is not a job that you do for the money, it is an opportunity to participate in ministry but we do compensate our counselors based upon years of service. The Camp Manager will discuss compensation with you. We are looking for individuals who want to serve and share their faith with our campers and grow in Christ!
