BUSINESS AND OFFICE TECHNOLOGY

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Business and Office Technology Program offers students two opportunities: 1) A Certificate when the student successfully completes two semesters of study, and 2) An Associate of Applied Science Degree after the student successfully completes four semesters of work.

The certificate program of study in Business and Office Technology is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in professional and business offices. All courses can be transferred into the two-year Business and Office Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree Program. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the program.

The two-year program of study in Business and Office Technology is designed for students who desire full-time employment immediately after graduation from MCC. This program provides students with a background of knowledge and skills needed to meet the changing technology of today’s business and professional offices.

As a Business and Office Technology graduate, a student will have career opportunities in businesses and industries, government agencies, hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, law offices, insurance agencies, schools and colleges.

TO EARN LOCAL ARTICULATED CREDIT IN THE BUSINESS AND OFFICE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM, A STUDENT MUST:

  1. Complete these high school courses with a grade of "A" or "B"
                Business Computer Technology I
                Business Computer Technology II (only required for BOT 1413)
  2. Fill out a local Articulation Credit Application form with all the appropriate signatures and return it to the MCC CTE advisor.
  3. Be a registered full-time student in good standing in MCC’s Business and Office Technology Program. ("Full-time" means taking at least 12 semester hours.)

  4. Be able to demonstrate keyboarding skills of 50 wpm on 3 (three) 5-minute writings with a maximum of 1 error per minute.

  5. Complete the next higher sequential course in the program with a grade of "C" or better or pass a competency exam with a grade of "85" on those courses for which there is no higher sequential or related course. See the MCC  advisor for the Business and Office Technology program to determine which of the MCC courses have a sequential course and which require a Local Articulated Credit exam.

TAP CREDIT MAY BE EARNED FOR THESE MCC COURSES:

              Keyboard Skill Building (BOT 1123)  3 semester hours
              Document Formatting and Production (BOT 1113)  3 semester hours
              Records Management (BOT 1413)  3 semester hours
                                           Total  9 semester hours
