Alex George is entering his 14th season as the Eagle’s Head Coach. He has spent the past 23 years coaching in the local area. He began his career at West Lauderdale where he led the Knight’s Soccer Team to several Division Championship and State Championship Appearances, capturing the State in 2000. He was selected as Lauderdale County Coach of the Year in 1999. George started the Women’s Program at MCC guiding them to their First State Title in 2007 along with Back to Back Region 23 Titles in 2008 and 2009. He has guided the Men’s Program to multiple State and Regional Playoff Appearances along with two trips to the District National Playoffs.
George was selected in 2013 to Coach the South Team in the first ever North/South Men’s All Star game leading the South Team to a 2-1 win. In addition to being Head Soccer Coach, George also holds an instructor position at MCC in the Social Science Department (History). George is supported by his wife, Denise Allen George, along with two sons, Peyton and Paxton.
Entering his 4th year as Head Coach for the Lady Eagles is Mike Smith. In his first 3 seasons as head coach he has compiled a 32-18-2 record. Last season Smith led the Lady Eagles back to the MACJC Postseason for the 1st time since 2007. The Lady Eagles hosted Northwest CC in the 1st round of the MACJC Playoffs, but came up short losing 2-1. In 2013 he was selected to coach in the first ever MACJC All Star Game and led the South team to a 2-0 victory over the North. Smith also produced the first ever Lady Eagle “All American” in 2013 in Meme Huff.
He is a class of 2000 graduate of West Lauderdale High School where he played soccer under MCC Men’s soccer coach Alex George and helped lead the Knights to the 2000 State Championship. Then he went on to MCC, where he was apart of the Eagles team that captured the 2000 NJCAA National Championship. Following his career at MCC, he went on to play at Delta State University in 2005-2007, where he was selected team captain, lead the team in scoring with 17 goals in his two years, and was selected to the All Gulf South Conference 2nd team. He went on to graduate in May of 2008 with a Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education. He has over 12 years of coaching experience in coaching all ages, including club, high school and college.
Smith was a part of the Chicago Fire Jrs. of Mississippi staff stationed in Jackson, MS from 2009-2011. Although the team he coached was from Meridian they were under the umbrella of the Chicago Fire Jrs. He went on to lead the MS Fire East U11 team to a MSA State Championship in 2009-2010. The 1st team to ever win a D1 state title out of Meridian. He is entering his 5th year as the head girls coach at Meridian High School and currently is the Director of Coaching (DOC) for Alliance Futbol Club and also coaches the U13 Girls Premier team with (AFC). Before Smith took over the Women’s program he was Coach George’s assistant with the Men and Women’s teams from 2007-2011. In the 5 years Smith was the assistant coach for MCC he helped coach Alex George lead the MCC Lady Eagles to an unprecedented three consecutive post-season championships (2007 MACJC, 2008 & 2009 NJCAA Region 23). And Region 23 Runner up finishes in 2010 & 2011. Coach Mike holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and also retains his USSF National “B” license.He is married to Emily George Smith and has a 3 year son named Dawson.
