Alex George is entering his 14th season as the Eagle’s Head Coach. He has spent the past 23 years coaching in the local area. He began his career at West Lauderdale where he led the Knight’s Soccer Team to several Division Championship and State Championship Appearances, capturing the State in 2000. He was selected as Lauderdale County Coach of the Year in 1999. George started the Women’s Program at MCC guiding them to their First State Title in 2007 along with Back to Back Region 23 Titles in 2008 and 2009. He has guided the Men’s Program to multiple State and Regional Playoff Appearances along with two trips to the District National Playoffs.
George was selected in 2013 to Coach the South Team in the first ever North/South Men’s All Star game leading the South Team to a 2-1 win. In addition to being Head Soccer Coach, George also holds an instructor position at MCC in the Social Science Department (History). George is supported by his wife, Denise Allen George, along with two sons, Peyton and Paxton.
Mike Smith is entering his third season as the head women’s soccer coach at MCC. In his first 2 seasons as head coach he has compiled a 23-10-1 record. In 2013 he was selected to coach in the first ever MACJC All Star Game and led the South team to a 2-0 victory over the North. Smith also produced the first ever Lady Eagle “All American” in 2013 in Meme Huff.
Coach Smith is a class of 2000 graduate of West Lauderdale High School where he played soccer under MCC Men’s soccer coach Alex George and helped lead the Knights to the 2000 State Championship. Then he went on to MCC where he was a part of the Eagles team that captured the 2000 NJCAA National Championship. Following his career at MCC, he went on to play at Delta State University in 2005-2007, where he was selected team captain, lead the team in scoring with 18 goals in his two years, and was selected to the All Gulf South Conference team. He is still second All-Time in goals scored at Delta State to this date. He went on to graduate in May of 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education. He has over 12 years of coaching experience in coaching all ages, including club, high school and college.
Before Smith took over the Women’s program he was Coach George’s assistant with the Men and Women’s teams from 2007-2011. In the 5 years Smith was the assistant coach for MCC he helped coach Alex George lead the MCC Lady Eagles to an unprecedented three consecutive post-season championships (2007 MACJC, 2008 & 2009 NJCAA Region 23). And Region 23 Runner up finishes in 2010 & 2011. He is married to Emily George Smith and has a 2 year son named Dawson.
