Lady Eagles Win Region 23
For the third consecutive season the Meridian Community College Lady Eagle soccer program has captured a post-season championship.
In 2007, MCC won their first ever title by capturing the MACJC State Championship, in 2008 MCC did one better by capturing the NJCAA Region 23 Championship and advanced to the program’s first ever NJCAA District Tournament. This season, head coach Alex George and his Lady Eagles added yet another banner to the program as MCC won back to back Region 23 championships with a 3-1 victory over Pearl River Community College on Saturday.
Freshman, Anastasia Vogel of Pontotoc,
MS, led the way for MCC as she scored two goals. Kelsey Edwards, a freshman from
Terry, MS, added an additional goal for the Lady Eagles as they will advance to
their second consecutive NJCAA District Championship this weekend.
The Lady Eagles will host the Women’s District Soccer Championship this Saturday
at 2 PM at the Northeast Soccer Complex. MCC will play host to Tyler Junior
College and a win will send MCC to the 2009 NJCAA National Championship
Tournament.
*Congratulations to MCC head coach, Alex George (pictured left) who was named the 2009 NJCAA Region 23 Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, he is joined by his assistant coach, Michael Smith.
“Mike and I are sharing the coach of
the year award. I just can’t accept this award without having him be part of
this, he adds so much to this program.”
