Ring in the holidays

What would the holidays be without music and what would they be without the College’s Chorus performing season tunes?

Wonder no more for the Arts & Letters Series will present the MCC Chorus Fall Semester Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the McCain Theater in Ivy Hall. Admission is free.

The Meridian Community College Chorus, under the direction of Tammy Miles and Twyla Hurst will present an evening of choral literature from various composers, time periods and cultures. Traditional Christmas repertoire will be included.

In addition to the concert choir, MCC’s two vocal ensembles, EnCore and Dimensions, will entertain the audience with pop, rock and R&B selections. A fourth ensemble, the MCC High School Chorus, will share music from their fall semester of study.

Afterwards, concert-goers are welcomed to enjoy a delicious desserts prepared by Mark Chandler and the MCC Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology group.

For more information about this Arts & Letters event, contact Leia Hill at extension 696.

Adding style to the holidays

Celebrate the Holidays, the annual event which puts the finishing touch on decorating for the season, will get under way Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. in the MSU Riley Center in Downtown Meridian.

Special guest speaker will be MCC alumnus Barclay Fryery (Class of 1980). Tickets are $60 each and may be purchased before the deadline of Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Fryery is a Greenwich, Conn., based lifestyle expert, interior designer, TV host, columnist and author. He has been named one of the top 125 designers in America by House Beautiful for four years. The 46-year-old interior designer has spent his career traveling the world, broadening with each new destination the taste he learned in his native Meridian.

"When you come from a simple place and you do great things, it's still a little overwhelming that people honor your work," the designer said.

The roots of his design philosophy stretch back as far as childhood, when he often tidied the house for company and made a habit of rearranging the living room furniture. After graduating from from Ole Miss in 1982, he launched his professional career at age 27, taking on an adaptation of his given name, Timothy Mark Barclay Fryery.

"My design is not cookie-cutter," he says. "I believe interior design should be based on the architecture, the region, and the personalities of the woman, man, and children who live there."

Fryery, whose parents Frances and Lee Fryery still reside in Meridian, also dreams of one day opening an interior-design shop in his native state.

In addition to Fryery’s appearance, there will be music and food.

For more information, contact Tiffany Harper at extension 856.
