Applause

MCCer Kathy Brookshire is wearing another cap by chairing the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation’s Education Committee.

Brookshire, who serves the College as director of institutional advancement, said the 20-member board seeks to present a positive influence on education. “We feel education is critical to both economic development and community growth.”

She added, “the committee feels its important for businesses and professionals to openly support education.” The EMBDC committee has already focused its attention on the needs of Meridian Public Schools.

Brookshire came to the College after a career as elementary school teacher. “I’ve committed my whole life to education,” she said.

MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott said, "Kathy Brookshire is undoubtedly one of the most talented teachers ever produced by the State of Mississippi. Her total commitment to students and her innovation in developing new teaching programs have been hallmarks of her award-winning career. I can't think of a better person to lead the EMBDC Education Committee than Kathy. She will bring a terrific base of knowledge to the committee as well as unrivaled enthusiasm. As the Meridian Public School District considers issues such as the hiring of a new superintendent and strategies to promote higher student achievement, Kathy and her committee will be an invaluable resource."

Seuss fan – Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Barbara Jones enthusiastically reads the Dr. Seuss classic, Green Eggs and Ham, to youngsters at Northeast Elementary School in honor of the author’s birthday. Reports have it that Dr. Seuss, Theodore Geisel, wrote Green Eggs and Ham on a $250 bet. The wager was that Geisel couldn’t write a book using only 50 words.
