Barbara Jones: MCCer of the Month
|
|
To say that Barbara Jones wears many hats would be an understatement. As associate dean of academic affairs, Jones is also chair of the College's language and literature department, a Phi Theta Kappa adviser, a Leadership Lauderdale participant and a Lauderdale County School Board member.
But it's her role as English instructor that is close to her heart. "The best days are when I go into the classroom, shut the door, and I am a teacher."
Always giving of herself to others and her alma mater, Jones has received in turn; she is MCCer of the Month for June. This award, underwritten by The MCC Foundation, applauds top-notch MCC faculty and staff members and comes with a $250 honorarium. In addition, the honoree has his/her photo displayed in Ivy Hall.
When Jones arrived at the College (she would ride the College van that once shuttled to the county borders), she wasted no time becoming involved in various campus groups such as Torch and PTK. She also logged in time in the library as a student worker. And when she went to Delta State University to finish her bachelor's and master's degrees, she was ready. "I had no trouble when I left," she said, adding, "MCC was giving a sound education and as evidence by our graduates, we still do that."
"I can't think of any other place to be other than at MCC," she said.
Though the MCC family, whether it is students, instructors or staff, is dear to Jones, she is dedicated to her family. "I'm a real family-oriented person, she said, adding, "I really think the reason why we are put on earth is to serve others and I like doing that."
