Lifetime Quest, a Learning in Retirement Center, located at Meridian Community College, is the result of a bold idea to provide enrichment opportunities for active 50-plus adults. With this center, MCC seeks to respond to the challenges and opportunities created by an age group who are living longer and are enthusiastic and involved in living. Lifetime Quest fosters and capitalizes on these strengths and empowers its members to continue learning, expand their horizons, and enhance their personal development.

Lifetime Quest members and participants are retired and semi retired doctors, lawyers, dentists, homemakers, teachers, librarians, musicians, artists, accountants, contractors, railroad workers, secretaries, entrepreneurs...The list goes on and on.

We offer a wide variety of topics ranging from Great Books discussion groups to gardening seminars to French for Travelers.

Speakers offer humorous accounts of "What it Means to be a Mississippian" and enlightening anecdotes of "Tales from the Presidential Helicopter." White House correspondent Helen Thomas' thought-provoking address urged members to "Keep Learning."

Lifetime Quest offers travel opportunities throughout the year, day trips as well as overnight trips. Since 1980, MCC has sponsored travel programs for its alumni and friends. With the inauguration of the Lifetime Quest program in 1995, and under its sponsorship, the travel program has grown to include each year.

Travel opportunities have included day trips to The National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Mercedes Benz manufacturing plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the John C. Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to see Paula Dean LIVE in Jackson…and shopping at the Summit and a play, Little Women in Birmingham. Overnighters to New Orleans, Louisiana, to see the musical Ragtime, and to the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, are among some favorites.

Lifetime Quest members also have first notification of trips planned by MCC Foundation Travel. Travel all over the country…North Carolina, New York, Italy, Alaska… and we’re just getting started.  Travel packages are offered to Lifetime Quest members at a discounted price, usually 10 to 20 percent off the full price.

Every month all through the year Lifetime Quest offers a variety of morning, afternoon and night events. There are musical and theater performances, cooking classes, author talks and book signings, and social gatherings.

This past year Lifetime Quest sponsored the Arts & Letters series at MCC.  Bestselling authors such as John Grisham, Jan Karon, and Sister Helen Prejean are only a few of the writers Lifetime Quest members have met. A holiday cooking class lead by MCC's Hotel Restaurant Management Technology faculty, students, and other Lifetime Quest members attracts a standing room only crowd and the Holiday Gala at the home of Lifetime Quest member is an entertaining way to cap off the season.
