Welcome to the Department of
Art
Visual Arts Department:
The art curriculum, through a varied program of study,
enriches the learning process in preparation for university
transfer and personal artistic growth. The art faculty is
dedicated in helping students reach their artistic potential
through creative opportunities both in and out of class.
Courses in Drawing, 2-Dimensional Design, 3-Dimensional
Design, Painting, Ceramics, Photography and Art Appreciation
help prepare students for professional competitive and
personal directions in art.

Scholarships:
A limited number of
Art Scholarships are available to freshmen and returning
sophomores. Those wishing to apply may do so by presenting
a portfolio of 8 to 10 artworks completed during their
junior / senior year or thereafter. College admission
documents are required before scholarships are awarded.
Additional scholarships information may be obtained from the
Financial Aid Department.
Activities / Opportunities:
Annual Visual Arts
Student Exhibit & Competition – This is a juried
selection and exhibition of artwork produced by students in
the visual arts program, held in April of each year in the
Miller Art Gallery, MCC campus.
Annual State
Community College Art Competition:
A juried art
competition held at different community colleges within
Mississippi.
Art Students
League / Club
This is an offering
of opportunities for art students to take trips locally and
abroad to enhance their arts education. Other activities
involve community volunteerism and special art projects with
local schools. Past trips include: France, Italy, Greece,
England, Netherlands, New York City, Chicago, New Orleans,
Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta and more.

Miller Art Gallery:
The Ronald R. Miller
Art Gallery is host to six art exhibits per year from August
to May. (Ronnie) Miller was a speech/theatre instructor at
MCC from 1966 to 2006. He was dedicated to all the arts
while at the college. The Gallery features the artwork of
local, regional and nationally known artists. It also holds
a fine collection of artwork by former art instructor Homer
Casteel (years taught: 1956-1972). The gallery is located
in the Davidson Fine Arts Center – Ivy Hall (West).

Monday – Thursday, 10
a.m. – 4 p.m.

appointment only
