ACC 1213, Principles of Accounting I, Financial Accounting, 3 cr.
An introduction to the fundamental principles, methods and purposes of accounting, this course provides a study of the accounting cycle for service and merchandising businesses, including the accounting for assets, liabilities and equity. Financial statements are also prepared, compared and analyzed with emphasis on using the statements. Analytical and decision-making abilities, as well as communication skills are emphasized. 3 hours lecture
ACC 1223, Principles of Accounting II, Managerial Accounting, 3 cr.
This course is a continuation of ACC 1213. Along with basic accounting for a corporation and a partnership, concepts of managerial accounting are covered. These managerial concepts include cost accounting for a manufacturer, cost-volume-profit analysis, capital investment analysis and budgeting. There is a continued emphasis on using interpretation, communication and decision-making abilities, along with an introduction to some theoretical accounting concepts. Pre-requisite: ACC 1213. 3 hours lecture.
ART 1113, Art Appreciation, 3 cr.
This course invites students to a preview of the world of art through awareness and understanding of the essential role of art from the past to the present. Satisfies 3 credit hours of Fine Arts in AA and AAS Core.
ART 1313, Drawing I, 3 cr.
Students learn fundamental principles of drawing based upon observation. Using a wide variety of materials, students draw still life, interiors, nature and the human form. 6 hours lab.
ART 1323, Drawing II, 3 cr.
Students find a continuation of Drawing I with further investigation in observation and emphasis on composition and color in this course. Prerequisite: Art 1313. 6 hours lab
ART 1433, Design I, 3 cr.
This course isolates the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and applies them through varied two-dimensional problems. (Basic course for art majors). 6 hours lab.
ART 1443, Design II, 3 cr.
Students learn basic problems in integrating the Elements of Art and Principles of Design with actual space and volume. This class provides an introduction to structures and organization through varied three-dimensional problems. Prerequisite: Art 1433 or permission of instructor. 6 hours lab.
ART 1812, Art Studio: Drawing, Painting, 2 cr.
This course provides instruction in drawing and/or painting from nature, still-life and the human figure. (Non-transferable).
ART 1822, Art Studio: Drawing, Painting, 2 cr.
Continuation of ART 1812. (Non-transferable).
ART 1913, Art for Elementary Education, 3 cr.
Designed for non-art students majoring in education, this course focuses on experiments in various media and rudimentary techniques suitable for teaching below the ninth grade level. Instruction is directed toward showing the prospective teacher how to encourage a child’s perceptual development and the psychology involved in stimulating the younger student to investigate the visual world.
ART 2113, The Arts and Culture, 3 cr.
This interdisciplinary course is designed to introduce the student to the visual, literary, and performing arts within the context of culture. Through a variety of experiences, including field trips, students will explore art as a mirror of society of by examining the artistic expression of various cultures.
ART 2513, Painting I, 3 cr.
Students gain studio experience in the fundamentals of painting (two different mediums) while exploring traditional and non-traditional subjects and concepts. Lecture with slides/videos and short field trips are included at the discretion of the instructor. Prerequisite: Art 1433, ART 1313 or permission of instructor. 6 hour lab.
ART 2523, Painting II, Cr. 3
This course will provide students with an elementary understanding of painting applications, including an expansion in understanding color theory and color harmonies and contrasts. The course of study guides the student in the development of an intuitive sense of form, an informed practice of seeing, mixing, and applying color in painting problems, and independent studies of individual interests. The development of an appropriate vocabulary, presentation practice, written and verbal evaluations, as well as outside research pertaining to Art History will be required. Upon completion, students should have insight into a basic, personal painting aesthetic (Acrylic and Oil). Prerequisite: ART 2513. 6 hour lab.
ART 2613, Ceramics I, 3 cr.
Students discover clay construction techniques including slab, coil, pinch and wheel. Emphasis is on design and workmanship. 6 studio hours.
ART 2623, Ceramics II, 3 cr.
This class features advanced work in clay with emphasis on wheel work and glaze formulation. 6 studio hours.
ART 2713, Art History I, 3 cr.
This is a survey course of the historical background of art forms from Prehistoric to Renaissance. Emphasis is placed on painting, architecture, and sculpture and their relation to history. Satisfies 3 credit hours of Fine Arts in AA and AAS Core. 3 hours lecture.
ART 2723, Art History II, 3 cr.
A continuation of Art History I, this survey course emphasizes the historical background of expressions in art from the Renaissance to the Twentieth Century. Satisfies 3 credit hours of Fine Arts in AA and AAS Core. Prerequisite: ART 2713. 3 hours lecture.
