Little Big Band with Carey Smith – Thurs., Oct. 20 • 7 p.m.
The Little Big Band is literally half of the 18 piece jazz ensemble. This concept is nothing new because in 1948 Miles Davis did a recording experiment that he called a nonet (nine pieces). Many ensembles since have shown a creative flair in their choice of instruments utilized in this size group as no traditional instrumentation has set a precedent to follow. This ensemble will allow the players more solo room and a chance to create their own arrangements. A portion of the material will be original and some will be traditional standards created in a fresh new manner for this ensemble. Director and performer Carey Smith promises you an evening of high energy fun and entertainment the entire family will enjoy. Don’t miss the premiere concert of this new ensemble!
